Individual Therapy for Adults

Why I Specialize in Trauma & Over-Performance

A lot of men AND people in general don’t realize they’re dealing with trauma—because their symptoms don’t look like what people assume trauma is.

Many are high functioning and over-achievers, and trauma shows up as:

  • Chronic stress, tension, or irritability

  • Overthinking and difficulty shutting the mind off

  • Emotional numbness or feeling “flat”

  • A constant sense of pressure to perform

  • Feeling responsible for everything and everyone

  • Difficulty relaxing without guilt

  • Relationship conflict, emotional shutdown, or fear of being “too much”

  • A cycle of discipline and burnout

  • Compulsive behaviors (work, sex, substances, porn, scrolling, gambling, etc.)

Over-performance is often a survival strategy. It can be the nervous system’s way of staying in control when life once felt unsafe, unpredictable, or emotionally unsupported.

The truth is: you can be successful and still be suffering.
You can be the dependable one—and still feel exhausted inside.

My work is built for men and trauma survivors who are tired of living in that loop.

Who I Work Best With

I specialize in working with men and trauma survivors who feel like they’re carrying too much—often without a place to put it down.

You might relate to this if you are:

  • A high-achieving professional who feels pressure constantly

  • A father trying to lead with love but stuck in stress, anger, or emotional shutdown

  • A first-generation who carries cultural expectations and family responsibility

  • A man who has done “all the right things” but still doesn’t feel okay

  • Someone who is outwardly functional but inwardly overwhelmed

  • A person who struggles with vulnerability, intimacy, trust, or emotional expression

  • Someone who feels stuck in hypervigilance, anxiety, or burnout

  • A man who wants to break cycles instead of passing them down

  • A person stuck in addictions, compulsive behaviors and dissociation.

  • Someone who masks, withdrawals and or is riddled with social anxiety.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, insightful, and self-aware—yet still feel blocked when it comes to change.

That’s because insight alone doesn’t resolve trauma.

What Sets My Approach Apart

EMDR

EMDR helps your brain and nervous system process experiences that still feel “stuck,” so they stop showing up as triggers in your day-to-day life. Instead of staying caught in old survival reactions, you begin to feel more grounded and able to respond with clarity. It’s a well-researched approach for trauma, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm—and you don’t have to retell or relive every detail for it to be effective.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing helps you reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and manageable—especially if you’ve spent years pushing through, staying busy, or living in your head. Together, we track what your nervous system is holding, gently release built-up stress and survival energy, and build the capacity to stay present with emotions instead of being overwhelmed by them. Over time, many people feel calmer, more grounded, and more at ease in their own skin—without having to force vulnerability before they’re ready.

1) We work through the nervous system: Stress, anger, shutdown, and emotional disconnection aren’t personality flaws. They are often nervous system states. Together, we learn how to track your internal activation, shift out of survival mode, and build real flexibility—not just coping.

2) We work with trauma patterns, not just symptoms: Many men and trauma survivors come in wanting help with anxiety, sleep disturbance, anger, relationships, or burnout. But underneath those symptoms are usually deeper patterns shaped by:

  • emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse

  • emotional neglect & chronic pressure

  • early responsibility

  • insecure attachment

  • abandonment wounds

  • cultural or family expectations

  • childhood experiences where emotions were not safe or welcome

We work at the root with consent and pace for safety and stability.

3) We integrate evidence-based trauma therapy:

I integrate approaches such as:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Somatic Experiencing (body-based trauma resolution)

  • Parts work / IFS-informed therapy (working with protective internal strategies)

This is especially powerful for those who feel stuck in the same patterns, even after years of trying to “figure it out.”

4) We build a new relationship with emotions:

Many men & trauma survivors don’t need to “be more emotional.”They need to feel safe enough to be real, and safe enough to feel. The goal is not to make you softer. The goal is to make you freer. More grounded. More connected. More present. More you.

EMDR & Trauma Consultation for Therapists

I offer EMDR consultation for therapists who want to deepen their work with complex trauma, developmental wounds, PTSD, addiction, and recent traumatic events—especially through a first-generation BIPOC lens. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant with lived experience, I support clinicians in understanding how trauma shows up in the body, in parts, and in survival strategies like emotional numbing, over-functioning, or shutdown.

Group Consultation: $55 | Individual Consultation: $155

Therapists are not immune to trauma—we carry nervous system patterns, attachment wounds, and protective strategies just like the clients we support. This work is meaningful, but it’s also demanding, and our own unprocessed experiences can quietly show up as burnout, disconnection at home, or countertransference that becomes harder to hold in the room. I support therapists (and often their partners) in doing their own trauma work with honesty, compassion, and a somatic focus—because when we work with trauma, our greatest tool isn’t technique, it’s our ability to stay present, regulated, and connected. I believe in trusting the process: not rushing, not forcing, but learning to listen to what the body and the system are asking for, so you can show up with more clarity, steadiness, and authenticity—in your work and in your life.

Immigration
Mental Health Evaluations

As a bilingual trauma therapist certified in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, I provide trauma-informed immigration psychological evaluations that center both your story and your nervous system. My approach supports you in sharing difficult experiences at a pace that feels safe—so your voice can be fully heard and documented with care and accuracy.

For over 10 years, I’ve worked alongside Latino and immigrant communities, helping individuals and families navigate emotional pain, chronic stress, and complex trauma. These evaluations are not just paperwork—they are your story, supported and witnessed, compiled in a way that gives your legal team the clearest picture of how your mental health has been impacted.

  • Standard Evaluation Fee: $1,200
Most immigration mental health evaluations are a flat fee of $1,200. Some cases are more complex and may require additional time (multiple interviews, extensive records review, higher clinical complexity). If that applies, it will be discussed during the consultation with you and/or your attorney before moving forward.

    Expedited Report Option

If you need a faster turnaround due to legal timelines, an expedited option may be available depending on scheduling.

    Expedited Fee: $600
(Availability is limited and must be confirmed prior to scheduling.)

    Deposit & Payment Schedule

To reserve your evaluation appointment(s), a non-refundable deposit of $400 is required.

The remaining balance is divided into three payments:

    • $400 deposit (non-refundable) — due at scheduling

    • $300 — due at the first interview appointment

    • $500 — due upon delivery of the final report to you and/or your attorney

  • 1) Initial Consultation (Client and/or Attorney)

We begin with a consultation to clarify the type of case, timeline, and whether the evaluation is an appropriate fit. This is also a space to ask questions and understand the full process.

    2) Scheduling & Paperwork

If we move forward, you’ll receive intake paperwork and instructions on what to prepare (and what to send, if you have documents or records). Interview sessions will be scheduled at this stage.

    3) Clinical Interview(s)

Most evaluations include 1–2 clinical interviews about 3-4 hours (sometimes more depending on complexity). We explore:

    • history and relevant experiences

    • psychological symptoms

    • functional impact (sleep, work, relationships, concentration, etc.)

    • protective factors and supports

    • immigration-related stressors and safety concerns

Interviews are trauma-informed, paced, and focused on both clinical accuracy and emotional safety.

    4) Measures & Clinical Assessment (as appropriate)

When appropriate, standardized screening tools may be used to support diagnostic clarity and strengthen the report.

    5) Records Review (if applicable)

If relevant records are provided (medical, mental health, school, or legal documentation), they may be reviewed as part of the evaluation.

    6) Report Writing

A comprehensive report is written that includes:

    • clinical impressions and diagnoses (when appropriate)

    • symptom presentation and trauma impact

    • connection between experiences and mental health functioning

    • treatment recommendations

    7) Final Report Delivery

The final report is provided to you and/or your attorney within 10-14 days, depending on your preference and signed consent. If your attorney has questions or needs minor clarifications, I’m open to coordination within ethical and clinical boundaries.

  • For individuals fleeing persecution, violence, or danger in their home country.

The evaluation focuses on symptoms of trauma (e.g., PTSD, anxiety, dissociation), your story of harm, and how returning would jeopardize your mental health or safety.

  • For U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents applying to waive a loved one’s inadmissibility.

The evaluation documents the emotional, psychological, medical, and financial impact that family separation or deportation would have on the qualifying relative.

  • For survivors of abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or child.

The evaluation details the abuse history, trauma symptoms, and emotional toll—while centering your resilience and readiness to heal.

  • For individuals who have experienced certain crimes (e.g., domestic violence, assault) and cooperated with law enforcement.

The evaluation outlines the psychological effects of the crime, as well as long-term emotional, safety, or relational consequences.

  • For survivors of human trafficking.

The evaluation captures the complex trauma involved, current symptoms, and the need for protection and ongoing support.
